Army Compatible Use Buffer (ACUB), Ft. Stewart, GA
In addition to working with private landowners to protect conservation land, GALT also works with the Department of the Army on Fort Stewart’s Army Compatible Use Buffer (ACUB) program.
Under the ACUB Program, GALT works with willing landowners to purchase conservation easements on land surrounding the installation. The goal of the program is to limit development near the installation that might otherwise present a land-use inconsistent with military training. This program creates a win-win-win! Landowners receive compensation for certain development rights being given up, while maintaining ownership of the land, as well as timber, agricultural, and recreational rights. Undeveloped land is protected by a conservation easement, contributing to one of the largest conservation corridors in the state. And the Army is able to continue training on Fort Stewart without constraints that nearby incompatible land-use might otherwise present, thereby furthering military readiness.
Our partnership with Fort Stewart has resulted in the protection of over 40,000 acres under this program! If you own land near Fort Stewart and would like to protect conservation land, while retaining ownership of your land and furthering military readiness, please contact Hal Robinson, GALT’s ACUB Program Director, at (912) 508-1855 or hrobinson@galandtrust.org. We will be happy to discuss the program with you and determine whether your property is within the program’s focus area.
